A Call for Submissions: Haitian or Dominican Maternal Love

can Republic and Haiti annually celebrate Mothers’ Day on the last Sunday in May. That’s this SUNDAY! Hope you’re ready!
Now through this Friday, May 27, In Cultured Company is collecting short written narratives about mothers and maternal figures the island of Hispaniola. Here are our requests:
- The mother or maternal figure in the narrative be of Haitian or Dominican descent, and the story is your own or a close relative’s. Additionally, stories positively representing Queer folks, Gender Queer folks, Matriarchal folks, impoverished folks, folks practicing African Spiritual Traditions are highly encouraged
- The narratives shared try to stir away from focusing on details that may be triggering for readers. Stories about women interacting with the Haitian and Dominican border are highly encouraged. Women parenting Dominican of Haitian descent or Haitian of Dominican descent children are highly encouraged.
- Photos or Videos less than 100MB in size should be submitted along with stories
- Submissions are publishable content of no more than 2,200 characters which will be shared on ICC’s page on Dominican and Haitian Mothers Day, May 29th
